Yeah, that co-ed sounded really sweet and I’m amazed somebody that age would actually begin looking at this stuff. All I knew at that age was buddhism and “the Book” by Alan Watts. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear she stopped seeking. Good for her.
In the meantime, Randall is becoming the “MOS”–man-of-the-site. All due respect to Gilbert, John, etc, but Randall is an animal and has been in the zone for quite some time on these pages. I can’t even think of a funny quote by Randall. All business…All effective. I like how he keeps saying “we see the object, but we don’t know what the hell it is.”
Getting back to the subject of this podcast, I’d agree with some that these spiritual texts are not always what they’re cracked up to be. If listened to literally, these texts could start to sound like a prescription to quiet the mind, make no discrimination for or against–all the same crap you’d hear in a becoming-oriented forum. Once it’s seen that there’s no separation between you and that registering presence, all of these revered texts, volcanic Maharajis, and sardonic Rameshes & Waynes become beside the point–all appearances or sensations in what I am / what you are. Nowhere to go. Nothing to get. No character who could get anything. Nothing to change about this perfection/being.

There is truly no one to relax into it. The concept of being ‘someone’ appears and disappears in the uninterrupted seeing.
Because of belief ‘I think’ that ‘I am that which comes and goes’.
So seeking reappears.
The SEEING is UNINTERRUPTED.
There is no one that sees.
The concept of being a ‘seer’ appears and disappears in the seeing.
The ACTUALITY is ‘seeing’.
Seeing is knowing.
They are the uninterrupted activities which we can also call experiencing.
The ‘experienc-er’ and the ‘experience’ do not divide the experiencing.
Experiencing is uninterrupted.
The ‘thinker’ and the ‘thought’ do not divide awareness into duality.
WHO is this uninvited guest called ‘me’?
Is it simply just a story? A long standing belief – one that has not been investigated?
Does any instruction need to be given here?
For whom?
There is no benefit in this for any ‘person’.

I donÂ´t see it as time wasted as apparently the psychology here had to pass through that process (or its one way to see it). The Urban Guru Cafe is like a big breath of fresh air into my life. That was very clear and Randall, thanks for hammering that one home.
The “Spiritual” thing has had its appeal here Only in the ‘image’ the me portrays in it’s avoidance of pain and pursuit of pleasure. Looking Spiritual has been of far more import that Being Spiritual and Being Spiritual has always had its roots in FEAR.
The reward/punishment system inflicted upon us as children, in the Christian Moral Traditions is steeped in this belief. A future salvation is Air and getting “there”….. simply impossible. Heaven is Here and Now, as is Hell. Where am “I” Seeing from?
What obscures the vision? No-thing

Let a joyful gratitude ring through the belfry towers and shake the cobwebs from the Bell.
The resonance is welling up ‘all over the place’.
Those who are bitter only feel more separation and no consolation will ease the pain of separation. The ‘me’ must be revealed for ‘what it is’. No one can do it for you.
The ‘last doing’ that any believed in ‘entity’ ever ‘seemingly does’ is to question itself. (The curtain is receding in proportion as the openness expands)
The courage to do this cannot come from the belief system. It is innately IN our true nature.
It is good to see such dynamism in the comments.
Phase One ‘seemingly ends’ on a ‘good note’.
Phase Two will most probably appear ‘today’. Phase Two is just a name, a term.
When ‘positive and negative forces’ are in each proportions they cancel each other out – the Phase each other out.
Night and Day are equally balanced in the harmony of One Presence.
The shadow of this planet (called night) is constant.
The illuminated ‘side’ is also constant.
Yet the rotation of the planet is simply the nature of ever fresh change.
LIFE is never stagnant. It is a wondrous stimulation beyond all comprehension.
Some call it ‘Ishwara’.
As Nisargadatta says: “Find the spark that weaves the tissues of the body and be with it – it is the only reality the body has”.
That is not an intellectual exercise. The answer is NOT in the mind.

What is “running” the body’s cell maintenance program?

The existence of intelligence is self evident…and it patterns endlessly and in an infinitely diverse manner.

What is this intelligence? Has it got any characteristics?

The intelligence is no thing that the mind can grasp…yet it is undeniable…and what or who could possibly be outside of this intelligence.

The intelligence runs the ‘whole box and dice’.

The intelligence is the imagined body/mind, the intelligence is the body/mind having a thought, the intellience is the total manifestation.

It is the intelligence that sees what is being pointed to…

It is the intelligence or emptiness that cognizes…

The imagined entity does nothing.

Exactly correct – this has nothing to do with spirituality or religion, although that’s how it’s translated in the mind. That’s why chasing spiritual concepts or practices are ultimately means to their own end – it is only in recognizing their futility that we are arrested in our own poverty of knowledge.

Mystery – not able to apply knowledge – all knowledge is bereft of validity in THAT which is prior to knowledge.

It’s about direct reality, direct experience, what IS – prior to any thought or concept – prior to all assumptions. What IS, right this very moment.

The minute we open our mouth to talk about what IS, we’ve already opened up the can of duality.

What IS, right now? Simply notice it without words. And in that WHAT IS, where is the separation? Where in this does “Josef” appear? The concepts and assumptions must come rushing in before the “Josef” can be conceptualized, before the pure “I AM-ness”, the most basic and essential knowledge of existence, can be applied to a separate body-mind.

I have ask my self the same question and come to the conclusion that nobody can give you a straight answer.
It all depends on how much you have challenge your BELIEF system. It is all about challenging your BELIEFS.
If you refer to Gilbert’s post above – answer to Sully ,you will read;

Only thoughts seeking thoughts, attracting other thoughts depending on your BELIEF system.
Life is living it self, Life is not in conflict with it self, A fruit knows how to ripen.
This separate person – ‘me’ -is just a thought that is appearing, it is not a person.
There is no separation. Seeing will change your belief system and therefore change how the worldly affairs are being conducted.

Does anybody recognize themselves in these statements?
- I am starting to see this and am feeling relaxed like things are clicking together
- I must be getting this because I don’t get as frustrated anymore, feel in the flow, and am kinder to others
- I understand more of this than I did several months ago and that makes me happy
- I have reached a state where I see there is no person, and that is good. I hope I can hold onto being able to see there is no person
- I am glad I came to this website, because before I didn’t get it, but now I have the understanding.

What never changed before, during, and after any supposed understanding, non-understanding, talking to Gilbert, or talking to somebody who teaches attainment practices?

What insights are you holding onto that will ensure you “stay complete” or “retain the understanding”?

Did you have to do anything to be what you are right here and now?

How many books or websites did you have to read and how many pointers did you have to understand before you became what you are right here and now?

Question: Does “seeing” have any effect on one’s functioning in the world, conducting worldly affairs or is there no correlation? An unconcerned, “devil may care” attitude is appearing, but I would rather not end up in jail or on the street. In other words motivation for taking care of business is waning, as seeing is apparently waxing. Is “me” using nonduality as an excuse to be irresponsible, or is some unraveling natural ? I haven’t a clue.

‘When’ are you not the seeing?
SEE this:…….the mind conceptualizes everything and SEEMINGLY creates a problem (for a ‘me’).
What ‘doing’ or what activity can take place anywhere ‘outside’ of this SEEING???
The concept ‘I am the doer’ is just a concept.
A concept cannot ‘do’ anything.
This touches on the erroneous concept pushed around by so-called ‘teachers’ that ‘the investigation is just more seeking’.
The blind lead the blind.
The investigation is nothing but SEEING – clear seeing of ‘what is’ (this activity of seeing is truly uninterrupted). SEE this – recognize this.
Even though there may appear, via a suggestion, a concept of being an ‘investigator’ – it ALL appears in the SEEING – (what doesn’t? Well everything appears in the seeing – yet what you are never appears).
SEEING is uninterrupted. There is NO ONE doing any Seeing – but the clear Seeing-Knowing of that is the ‘turning point’.
Whatever ‘brings’ this into the Open View is totally valid.
Setting oneself up against oneself via belief in concepts of ‘right and wrong ways to go about things’ is just more baggage.
The butcher keeps his knife well honed and it cleaves the meat off the bone without going blunt.
Do the same with the mind. Hone the mind and the sharpness of pure SEEING (which NEVER goes blunt) will do what is necessary.
‘You’ cannot do anything but see that INTELLIGENCE does everything.
“The mind is a good servant – but it is a bad master”. (quoting Nisargadatta)
ANYONE WHO TRULY FOLLOWS WHAT IS BEING POINTED OUT HERE, CANNOT HELP BUT SEE IT.
The evidence is flowing in that many are seeing what needs to be seen (without the aid of being a ‘seer’).

Randall, Gilbert, Anyone,

“No yesterday, No tomorrow, No today!”

I can buy that there might not be a me here & I can even see that I might be space like awareness but for me to think there was never a yesterday, today or tomorrow is a real stretch.

This really goes right over my head.

I’m paying for credit card bills that my wife charged last month. It can’t be that it is all happening now because it isn’t all happening now. You can’t say it’s raining now if it’s not raining now!

Things are happpening now (today) that will effect tomorrow. My father’s body is not here today because he died 5 years ago!

Would one of you guys explain this to me.

In ‘the appearance of things’ it is good to see so many downloads happening and it is heart warming to see so many resonating with what is pointed out.
As each ‘bird’ is released from ‘the cage of belief’ a moment of watching it soar above the cage is enjoyed, then the focus is back on the ‘birds in the cage’. You can whisper or shout “The door is OPEN” or “The cage doesn’t exist” or any number of other ‘pointers’. It is the biased views in mind that prevent the ‘hearing’. – Some curse and spit at the messenger.
Compassion is not a choice.
Beyond the appearance everyone is already free. The cage is made of words and beliefs.
Take a closer look yourself.
There never was any ‘someone’ who was in bondage.

Someone suffering intensely with trying to get past the ‘me’ wrote and asked what life is like without the concerns of the ‘me’ and whether there is any enjoyment. Also if ‘phone contact’ was advisable.
Answered: “Yes life flows naturally and there is lots of enjoying happening.
The old habitual fear is just resistance to the IDEA that if there is no me, and the fear that ‘then’ I won’t exist anymore.
It is a bullshit story and we know it is, innately.
That idea of ‘me’ is not happening all that much really, for anyone…….most of the time it isn’t there at all…..When it is there, there is friction.
It is the ideation of the sense of being separate………and of locality, erroneously placed identity.
As the old saying goes: Face the fear and it is the death of fear.
Talking directly is much more immediate than emails or reading books and websites…….it doesn’t leave time for the mind to escape.
Make the call. Don’t worry. Relax”
Note to Alcofribas: Some of your comments get deleted because they simply SUCK. Not because they are ‘off the official line’. Maybe take a look at where and why these vigilante style comments are expressing themselves there.
I am sure that they get aired in many other areas of ‘your life’.

Technical Note. Phase Two of the UGC will have larger files to improve the quality of sound. This is a necessary change to our format. Those with slow internet connections will need to download the files rather than stream them on line.

As that young man from Nazareth says: “The Kingdom is within you and all around you and you SEE it NOT”. Can you SEE this Wakefulness?
No, only phenomena, objects and empty space are perceived.
You do not know WHAT it all register on. It is indescribable. It is what you ARE. No one has EVER seen ‘the self’, yet they can spend a whole lifetime looking for it. Where are you SEEING from?

‘I’ is only a word, a letter. The sense of identity is woven around this letter or word.
A story of ‘me’ based on events and experiences.
“I am this……or I am that…..”
“I am Gilbert and ‘this or that’ happened to me as a child”.
The word ‘I’ on its own is nothing much. It doesn’t lend itself to the ‘creation’ of an ‘identity’ on its own.
The ‘problem’ is that there is no identity anywhere in the WHOLE.
This is why it is recommended to investigate this believed in ‘identity’.
Nothing horrific will happen in the seeing through of this habitual belief.
In fact a sense of spontaneous relief rises up, devoid of words and meaning.
It is naked. It is what some call ‘the natural state’.
Nature is not in conflict with itself.
The ‘me’ is a restless phantom which is constantly in friction with ‘what is’.
‘It’ appears to want to change everything to suit itself. Why?
Because it is not real, it ‘appears’ to need to fortify its ‘fabricated presence’.
A tirade of abusive language may vent itself as ‘it’ attempts to regain lost ground.
The ‘problem’ is that it has no substantial ground to stand on. Therefore it is constantly ‘at risk’ of being ‘found out’.
Like a fan dancer it constantly covers over the ‘essential bits’. The natural state is wordless and it is the ‘word’ that covers it with stories.
Stories of ‘ME’.
Of course such revelations will be highly confronting to the belief system.
What we are on about here is not the development of any ‘spiritual self-image’.
That is why so many get aggressive – because some ‘sacred belief’ is not being given any credence here.
LOVE is another ‘topic’ that many get upset about. “Where is the love in this?” is what they usually ask.
If you cannot find a warmth towards your own being, what good is the concept ‘love’?
This is not a matter of swooning seekers into a new dream-like state.
This is all about that NAKED WAKEFULNESS, which is PRESENT(presence) – yet being ignored.
Whatever it takes to stir up some interest in THAT, is totally valid.
I speak from experience on this. I went down that ‘spiritual road’ for many years. It is a dead end street. I would not have believed it if I had been told. Yet ‘when the time was right’ I heard what needed to be heard. This UGC is all about offering the same essential information. There are few takers BUT there are some and their lives are turned around most remarkably. The point is, WILL you hear what is on offer?
The answer is NOT in the MIND. That is one of the biggest clues that there is.

Me: I wandered for forty years x2 in the desert, don’t I deserve to enter the promised land. Who was it promised to anyway?

Not Me: You wandered so that you could see the futility of wandering, as long as you believe you are separate you will wander. Want to wander some more, or have you had enough?

Me: Had enough. But G and R say I already am in the promised land, all I have to do is rest in awareness to taste the milk and honey, here and now.

Not Me: Sorry. There is no you in nonduality to taste anything. Give it up. You are just another appearance within presence/awareness, really you are just a thought. Thoughts can’t do anything or have anything or even see anything.

Me: I sound like a hopeless case. So I am supposed to be OK with this?

Not Me: It’s really not all that bad. Just realize that you are imaginary, imagined by no one, perhaps the victim of a cosmic joke, but you are just dream stuff, dream characters can’t suffer or feel bad, so why should you? Just be an appearance, what’s so bad about that?

Who hears that?

What hears that?

The sounds are arising in presence. And i am not able to make a distinction between presence and the sounds. This “I” or presence has not be found or canÂ´t be found, because “I” already are that.

You’ve referred to it continuously over a “lifetime”. But what really IS the “I”?

This is the root of identification, misplacement of “I”. “I” is INTIMATELY known. Yes? But what IS it?

It cannot be the body, as the body appears TO “I”, as an object. Perceptions. Sensations. Yes?

It cannot be the “mind” or thoughts. Thoughts appear TO “I”, as an object. Sensations. Yes?

So “I” really is the ultimate subject – invisible – subjectifying everything else in the world. Subjectifying the body and mind. All appears TO that “I”. To YOU. Yes?

“I” is no-thing. Not a thing. “I” is not describable – it has no characteristics, no shape, no size, no color. Yet it is the most undeniable aspect of any experience, no matter the content of experience, that “I” has never changed.

There has never been an experience without that “I”. That Presence of “I”.

Yet all “things” are only possible, only appear TO this “I”. YOU. You, this “I”, has ALWAYS been the subject to a lifetime of experiences.

Hi Gilbert: Thank you for the shout-out; I’m glad I saw it. I’m actually back in the States (as of just over a week ago) and am planning to see everyone in Melbourne this fall when it’s a little warmer and good for surfing. You’re doing great as always “hanging back” to guide those who need your wisdom and Randall has just been an animal with the clear posts. One thing I’ll say that folks will eventually notice is that this “noticing” or “awareness” never changes whether we gobble up more and more texts or try to “stabilize” in this topic. It’s no joke that there’s nothing to get because you already ARE that. There’s NO THING SEEING and there’s nothing that could ever get behind the NO THING or bolster up the NO THING or improve upon it in the slightest. There’s also nothing to be afraid of in recognizing who you are; it’s completely natural and the home you never left anyway.

One request is could we please get more women speakers on the program? I really enjoyed what Catherine had to say and I’m sure someone like Unmani, for instance, would be a hit as well.

Hello Randall, hello Gilbert and all the others,

thanks for the responses and all the other wonderful comments at the podcast before. I enjoy reading the comments and hearing the wonderful popcasts.

It is often said here that most people donÂ´t want to see the truth and simple donÂ´t want to look for themselves.

“I” really want to see the truth.

But i have problems with the suggestion “simply look”. I tried to “simply look” the last few days. More precisely i tried to “simly look” at “me” for the last five years. “Simply looking” is in my opinion identical with the question “who or what am I?”. I tried and tried and tried. But this “simply look suggestion” did not work for me.

In my own perception i am not able to see the truth if i look for it. I donÂ´t only mean looking to the so called “outside world” by that, that means to thoughts, people and so on.

Primarily I mean looking at “me”, at the center, where the looking is happening. It is not able for me to see anything there. There is absolutely nothing to find. This recognition makes me clear, that the so called person does and cannot exist.

But what am “I” then? In “simply looking” back at me I doenÂ´t find anything. That could bring me to the conclusion, that i am nothing. But that feels somehow constructed and cold for me.

The last days i came to the conclusion, that it is not possible to find the truth if i look for it and try to see it, because I never will see “me”, because how could that “me” see itself? It is not possible. It reminds me on a sentence or a podcast on the ugc, where someone said or wrote analogously “The eye canÂ´t see itself”.

I canÂ´t see the truth. I am the truth. I am. I exist. Being is.

I never will see that in my perception. I can only be it. I am already.

Please feel free to criticize me and to make the mistakes in my perception clear. I would be thankful for that. That`s why i wrote this.

Yes, when it hits home, one may then recognize that these salient points have been hammered at over and over without relenting. The recognition arises spontaneously, unexpectedly. The core of recognition is cognition (knowing) and this knowing has always been the background to all there is.
When Siddarameshwar told Nisargadatta to “stay with the ‘I am” (not the words I am) he trusted his teacher and did it.
Within a short space of ‘time’ it revealed what needed to be revealed – ONCE and for ‘all time’.
The realization is that ‘I am – and I have ALWAYS been HERE’.
The belief in transient passing thoughts do not actually deviate what I AM – the deviation is only for the believed in ‘entity’ which by its very nature, comes and goes.
How could you be something that comes and goes?
Enough said.

…and also mirrors a penetrating ‘insight’ that struck me some time back. Its almost TOO obvious now!

Its helpful to simply stick with the only thing you can rely on.

Stick with what ya know!

Thoughts, ideas, concepts, etc cannot be relied upon! They are fleeting, fickle, erratic, inconsistent and unpredictable. It becomes clear that any investment in this ‘stuff’ is a bad investment!

So, after you’ve worn yourself out, you come back again to that one thing that can be relied upon time and time again. The only thing that you can be really REALLY sure of.

And THAT isn’t any ‘thing’ at all.

I understand the calls to not try to figure it all out, but there’s just confusion when it’s repeatedly stated there’s just oneness, when clearly seemingly there is separation.

Difficult to convey clearly, but just in a rudimentary sense, there seems to be a separate awareness over here that registers this separate body-mind and thoughts. An intelligence that sees through these eyes, and hears with these separate ears.

When the body dies the registering space-like awareness apparently moves on — the body is left lifeless — and intelligence is left to decompose the spent body-mind organism.

Isn’t this separation? If the intelligence that breathed the body leaves/separates — is it now a different intelligence that recycles the body-mind?

Not that “anyone” cares about near death experiences (dismissed as hearsay) or more aptly “death experiences,” but the registering space like awareness seems more like a spark of individuated awareness.

Interesting side note “story” — after reading RF’s dream synopsis last night, I went to sleep and surely in the dream realized that I was dreaming. Although this happens on occasion, often in the dream I’ll get excited or frightened and immediately wake up. However I “consciously” made the decision to roll with it and not freak out to test Randall’s theory. Sure enough, everything was as real as waking — meaning the capacity for reasoning, etc. So I decided to take advantage of this and sit down and meditate hoping to glean some unique experience. As I went to sit cross-legged my same balky knee flared up — just as I had injured in the past couple days. The ground beneath me happened to be unexciting asphalt and sure enough, I ran my hands across it and, “God, this is just regular rough asphalt.” And on and on…

I understand the story is a bit of an UGC indulgence, but just sharing that to make the observance that it’s just almost the same formulated mind stuff again in another state.

I’m embarrassed to say this, but I’m looking for help in understanding this common predicament we find ourselves in (those asking questions on this site) — namely this sense of separation — but have also come to expect the Non-Dual response is there’s no one there that needs help. Intellectually, sure any voice can parrot that response, but true relief is not being experienced in this bag of bones typing right now.

Thanks and sorry for all the dross… I guess all there is to do is to continually notice the awareness that is?

It is the thought “I work for peace and bliss” that seemingly obscure peace and bliss.

There is no “I” working for peace and bliss. The “I” is Awareness. Is awareness seeking? Or is awareness watching as the mental mouse chases it’s tail, thoughts about thoughts, concepts after concepts?

Pause thought right now – in that pause, you (what-you-are) didn’t disappear, you didn’t fall apart. In that pause, you remained present and unchanged.

The changing content never affected awareness (“I”) – did it? Therefore SEE that NOTHING has ever changed that primary and ever-present awareness.

Don’t overlook this – don’t reflexively gloss over it as just more of the same misunderstood “advaita pointers”. Isn’t “awareness”, the present activity of knowing, simply always there, aware of seeking thoughts??

Isn’t the idea of “milton-the-seeker” an aspect of those thoughts? Isn’t the idea of “I need to understand this” happening within that “field” of changing content, while the primacy of witnessing Consciousness remains always prior to?

Aren’t thoughts necessary to know of a “milton-the-seeker”? Are you the mind or is what-you-are always witnessing mind?

So just stay with what you know without question, without a concept – you ARE. That primary subjectivity, that “I” – IS Awareness. Mind/Thoughts appear TO YOU.

Don’t try to figure it all out, position it within the already-existing conceptual framework. Mental analysis is like standing in the water, grabbing the waves and trying to make them still – it becomes just more agitation. Just let it be as it is – notice what IS – just notice. Don’t judge. There is no right and wrong.

You already ARE what you’re seeking. So let the waves calm on their own.

B: Thanks, what a relief. That gives me great hope and solace, now I can better endure the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. Maybe things aren’t so bad after all. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

A: Don’t get your hopes up too much. however, because actually there is no hope at all for you. In fact, the suffering stops only when you are gone. You are the suffering. You are the problem.

B: So you are telling me that I won’t get any of the peace and bliss that I have worked so hard for, that if and when they come they aren’t for me? I feel kind of like Moses getting a glimpse of the Promised Land before I die. Doesn’t seem fair. All that wandering around for nothing. Seeking sucks!

Yeah…….I love it too. A few choice words stirs up a hornet’s nest. I just don’t go putting my head in it. Maybe I will tire of it sometime. But it sure seems to help, even at times for the ones who get all wound up about it all. This ship don’t have ‘a crew’ – it sails where it will without any labor. But we can all be thankful for all those who share their voices on these programs. It is a powerhouse of clear pointing.
The necessary recognition arises unexpectedly. If you sit around waiting for it, it probably will never happen. Such is the paradox of seeking.
This is why it is imperative to SEE if there is actually any substance in that clear space out of which ‘you’ appear to be seeing.
This is repeatedly pointed to.
In that clear space intelligence is shining clearly. It is the light by which you see and know. Get the idea of ‘me’ out of the picture and then the constant referencing to it ceases to divert the mind into the ‘story of me’. Life is a breeze without it.
But notice how much resistance there is to this ‘pointing’.
The habit of belief in ‘me’ is a stubborn mule – well that is a concept.
It is all made out of emptiness. That is the great cosmic joke.
The laughing about it is a sign of the healing of an old wound.

Great Site Wow, the podcasts are Brutally Clear and I like the 2nd life thing. It’s exactly like this 1st life Here…. a bunch of dream characters running around an illusory world,,, Looking for Friends, Activities, Sex and Enlightenment.

Roger, I take meds for “my” depression and I would suggest that Advaita, Non Duality, Spirituality or whatever is NOT a replacement therapy At ALL and that our brain chemistry sometimes needs certain chemicals to “Fire” correctly.

Sacred texts, words spoken out aloud, objects and bullfrogs…all pointers to the natural state. They are in fact the intelligence patterning endlessly in the most diverse way.

All the above, disappear into the empty space. Where do thoughts and words come from if not that empty space. Objects and matter consist of molecules and atoms and ultimately empty space. The empty space or the intelligence is the form or patterns.

The imagined entity does not know or understand this…the imagined entity does nothing.

The intelligence does everything…and it is the intelligence that ‘registers’ this realization. The body/mind plays no role in this…the body/mind appears in the intelligence or the seeing.

There is only one seeing or one intelligence.

That’s it. In there, in the rubbish pile is the very thing we have overlooked all along. Or so it seems – it is actually beyond all content of mind. But the content of mind must be recognized as content with no one in it.
Discarding the obsession with our own obscuring factor reveal what was HERE all the ‘time’. The passive approach is so often misleading. Stirring up the pot, brings things top the surface. When the ‘self-image’ is recognized for what it is – it is truly pure seeing.

Is it simply the awareness before (and during) the thought “this isn’t it” that you’re talking about?

Clearly that awareness isn’t something that can be manipulated — it just is. But the nagging continual thoughts are sorta “if I just get all my ducks in a row, then there won’t be this constant anxiety,” etc.

Very non-sophisticated appraisal, but I just don’t gather what you’re talking about sometimes. Yes, full-stop: no one dies, intelligence in the body (and everywhere) happens, but thought always comes screaming back… with it’s desires and demands.

Why in such a rush back to anxiety rather than resting in awareness? Conceptual, but is resting in awareness the peace that passes all understanding — because “understanding” is by nature “thought,” i.e. taking place over time (in mind)?

So you fall for the same old trap over and over.
There is NO ‘you’. Knowing that does not mean that expressions cease.
Life goes on, more or less exactly they way it always does.
The crude dismissal of the text does not indicate an open mind, as I see it.
It actually indicates the opposite.
All concepts are translucent. This is known completely HERE. ‘I’ can express whatever comes up without any need of concern. In this ‘ping-pong game’ if an old belief is tossed out, well and good. Deal with your own biased views, then the expressions may be less biased against this ancient text. It obviously doesn’t resonate with you.
So, let us know of one that does. Maybe you can put us all back on track.
What teacher do you advocate? Come on tell us…..why not?
Beyond all this prattle, what argument can there be about the Oneness of things?

Well, having a worthy opponent helps sometimes. But you are not up to scratch my friend. Actually, this reminds me of an incident that happened with my Mother. She was critically ill and near death, or so it seemed. She had always been a religious type. So I took her King James Bible into the hospital for her. You know the ones with tissue like pages. She had dropped all of her concerns with the usual attachments of life.
When I pulled out the Bible and handed it to her, she looked me in the eye as if to say “what on earth do I want that for?” She simply utter a few words, which took me by surprise. “Huh, Shit paper”. When I was leaving I bumped into some ‘church friends’ of my mother’s, coming to visit her. I recounted the incident to them and they stood their ‘gob-smacked’. They uttered some senseless words from their shocked state of mind.
I did not see it that way at all.
Each ‘event’ in life is neither sacred nor profane. In fact in the clear space of knowing, nothing at all is happening. Finding that ‘place’ is impossible for the mind. It is when the mind is not.

Hello again my friend.

The dream, as Sully said, is taken to be less realistic – less real – many things that go on, go unnoticed.

We take ourselves to be the chattering intellect – this may seem to be one thing that is present only in the “waking state” – the dream may be recalled as foggy, distant, general activities going on but it may not be obvious that this thinking process, this intellect, is also active in the dream.

The very thing that we take to be “ME” – that unquestionable evidence of ME-ness, that intellect – THAT is present in the dream. Fear is present. Love is present. Happiness or confusion. This very ME-I-take-myself-to-be is THERE, in that dream.

Not as an appearance but in EXACTLY the same way that it appears now. Identification. That identification carries over into the dream state. If another dream character came up to you in the dream and asked you what you are, you would say “Jenny”, who else? This ‘body-mind’”.

This “body-mind” is made of dream-stuff – but the character doesn’t know it’s made of dream stuff.

So another dream character comes up and says – “You are dreaming. That body-mind is nothing but appearance – that “ME” you take yourself to be doesn’t exist in reality – doesn’t exist as separate from Consciousness.”

Isn’t that exactly what is happening right now? You ARE dreaming. But “Jenny” isn’t dreaming. It is Consciousness, aware of passing “states”.

Consciousness is dreaming a “jenny”.

“This â€œsacred textâ€ is way overrated.” Well…….Over rated by WHOM? The mind.
The Ultimate State is not a state at all. For the mind it is the point of departure.
This so-called ‘point’ is a believed in thought. It is belief that makes it seemingly real.
Upon what foundation do all of your opinions rest?
Is it not the belief in being ‘someone’? What substance does this ‘someone’ truly have, without belief?
Is the sum total of all your knowledge merely BELIEFS?
The ‘point’ of departure and the ‘point’ of arrival are ONE.
No one ever left this presence.
No one ever did anything.
The refusal to SEE the truth of this is the basis of all suffering.
The Buddha pointed to the basic reality – a few have recognized it. Instead the mind ‘creates’ a religion and postulates a ‘thousand life times’ to get ‘somewhere else’.
Reality is here NOW.
The only thing that seemingly obscures its vivid presence is belief in thoughts and a ‘self-image’.
The ignorant insistence on being a ‘person’ searching for reality is the problem.
Where is the problem.
The arrogance of one who will wipe his ass with a sacred text is the poison of the ‘me’.
Spiritual arrogance takes the cake.
In looking closely at this arrogance one, one most usually finds a biased opinion about some favorite teacher.
One who reflects similar arrogance – thus is the nature of identified consciousness.
Yet the message has not worked, quite obviously. How absurd.
The majority of ‘spiritual seekers’ do not have any intension to truly SEE ‘what is’.
The foundation of their arrogance is the embodied concept that they insist is present.
Humbug. The mind is forever busy protecting these erroneous foundations.
What is true has no truck with such things.
What is your true nature? Where are you truly seeing from?
Is there a ‘you’ in that SEEING?

I didn’t write that but I agree with what Gilbert wrote.

Advaita is about Self-knowledge – investigating what you “think” you know about yourself – finding out what you are through negating what you are not.

During the “dream”, is there anything else? Isn’t present reality in the dream only what appears, just like now? Isn’t the “state of affairs” in the dream exactly like it is now? Is the feeling more real then? Don’t we “wake up” and wonder if it was really a dream? Don’t we sometimes have situations which are so bizarre in the “waking state” that we sometimes have to ask “is this a dream”?

Doesn’t the “dream sully” take the dream every bit as seriously as this “waking sully” takes this “waking state”?

If we momentarily don’t know, if we aren’t completely certain, if we have to pause and posit the question, then how much more real IS the “waking state”? We ask because we already know that there is no differentiation, no way to tell the difference while IN the dream. So we posit that we might be “dreaming”.

Doesn’t the “waking state” come and go? How is this known? What remains to say “I slept”? Something remains to see it come and go. Yes? If we look closely, the “waking state” passes just like the “dream state”. Both are temporary states.

Tonight, like clockwork, this “waking state” will dissolve. This “sully” will dissolve with it. All that remains will be objectless awareness. No sully. The “dream state” will appear from nowhere, complete with a “sully” character, a fully-made world, body and mind. The identification, fears, hopes, desires – all perfectly in order. Yes?

Yet does any of it happen outside of Consciousness? Aren’t the buildings and people and animals and thoughts and fears – every single BIT of it – isn’t it made of “dream stuff”? “Dream-stuff” is Consciousness. Is it not?

Is this anything you don’t already know? Isn’t this simply overlooked as unimportant because the pre-conceived notion of a separate entity who “dreams” is already there?

Is there any suffering over the situation in last night’s dream? Are you still afraid of the monsters and boogeymen in the dream? Of course not. Why? Because it was “only a dream”.

The world, body and mind, this “waking state”, is only a dream. A dream of Consciousness. MADE OF Consciousness, exactly like the “dream”.

This “thinking mind”, this intellect, is the biggest source of identification. It seems to be “what we are”. One of the biggest “insights here” was noticing that thinking happens IN THE DREAM. Thinking happens in the dream! How amazing is that! That “dream character” is IDENTICAL in every way, experiences, thinks, feels…

This “sully” character appears. That’s reality. “Sully” appears in the “dream”. “Sully” appears in the “waking state”. No difference. “Sully” appears TO YOU.

Stop and notice this – “Sully” appears TO YOU! YOU are Awareness. The “waking” and “dream” states come and go in you. This is obvious yet seemingly obscured due to existing solidified concepts.

Let them go and what remains?

There is no guru – there are appearances of so-called “teachers” – these appear like involuntary signposts – not pointing to themselves but to YOU – back to you – pointing you back to yourself – pointing you to look at HOW you know yourself.

Relax, my friend. Situations – “good and bad” come and go. The good won’t stay, neither will the bad. All is well. All is Consciousness.

I have been listening to these programs & felt I was understanding & then my focus went back to all the crap going on in my life. My wife lost her job & my salary was cut in half.. etc,…….you now the same old story…

Who is asleep and who is awake? ‘Who’ needs a story, half of one or a full one?
The waking state and the dream state are two aspects of consciousness.
The character(s) that appear in these states, what do they know of themselves or of each other? As that believed in ‘me’ what do you KNOW of yourself?
Stories? “Once upon a time……”
The dream character moves around in the dream and feels real and does all kinds of things, yet upon waking it all vanishes? Was anything truly embodied?
The waking state and the dream state are the same.
The story about embodiment is just a story, just like E-Tolle’s ‘pain body’. To give it any credence at all is simply another story to weave the attachment to ‘me’ around.
Pointing this out brings a new wave of criticism from those who protect their dream of being awake.
Envy and jealousy are 10 times more emphasized is so-called ‘spiritual aspirants’.
So nothing works, eh. So what is all the fuss about and for whom or what is all the defensive postures in aid of? Feeble minds and feeble thoughts belong to no one.
Clear expressions arising from the stateless being cut through the states of sleep and wakefulness.
By what light do you see and know?

The duality of mind is exposed in the idea of the seeker and the sought. To identify with the seeker is to sleep and dream of finding what is sought. Realise that the seeker and the sought are as inseperable as the seer and the seen and that seeking is inseperable from seeing. Seeking is the mind and appears in seeing. To try and do anything about seeking is to sleep and dream. The mind seeks, the mind tries, the mind is dream, the mind is in appearance. There is no need to stop thinking only realise that you are not the thinker and thinking can carry on as a dream and can never disturbed seeing. Thought can only disturb thought.

Know then that seeking is but a dream, it cannot and need not be fought or stopped just recognized as dream. To recognize dream\seeking as dream is to be free from the dream\seeking.

Gah! WORDS!!

A dream can only be known by that which is awake.

This is not just a matter of a false belief,or a lack of investigation…the understanding of this can bring a lot of release and relaxation ,but as long as the sense of a “me” is still there (and not just the thought of “me”),there is the potential for psychological suffering…the “me” is not just a thought but also an embodied energy,that’s why the usual recommendations of many teachers don’t work;they can only make the prison more confortable …the great discovery is that nothing works!…only Nothing!:-)

THAT upon which the appearances of “waking state”, “dream state” and deep dreamless “state” come and go, THAT is the truth of your beingness. This isn’t a hypothesis. Take a look.

How do you experience yourself? This most basic question should be the easiest to answer, however the very lack of certainty shows the root of all fear. The mystery of Life is seemingly covered up, made more comfortable, with the blanket of labels and concepts and assumptions.

WHAT you are is a mystery. THAT YOU ARE is beyond question. But THAT is not the body-mind, not a splintered existence, floating in the “outside world”, surrounded by separate things.

How do you experience yourself? Take a look. Is your essence that body? The body is made up of cells. Cells are molecules, atoms, emptiness. The movement of energy or intelligence forms that body from emptiness.

Is your essence that mind or thoughts? Thoughts are neurons firing. Cells. Movement of energy. Are you pushing all the right buttons within the head, causing millions of neurons to fire in the correct sequence and volume?

These “things” are only solid in appearance, like the rock is solid yet made up of empty space – that empty space is moving – alive – consciousness – how else could empty space form into so-called solidity? What is moving the electrons in a rock? Is it dead? Is it inert? LIFE is that power. Yet it’s simply looked at as an insignificant rock – the Reality is overlooked.

The Sun streaks across the sky each day – we know for certain that the Sun stays put while the Earth spins – yet we say AND forget/believe that “the Sun is rising and setting”. Reality has been put in the closet and appearance has become apparent Reality.

Reality isn’t hidden. What you truly ARE isn’t obscured. It’s simply overlaid with beliefs that are already obviously false, just like the rope taken to be snake. Your essence isn’t contained to a cell or firing neuron.

The awareness “I” – THAT is what you’ve referred to for a lifetime, only you’ve applied it to the object body-mind. “I” is Awareness. “I” is an opening.

“I” isn’t a “thing” – “I” is THIS MOMENT. This moment-without-a-second. THAT in which the body-mind appears and disappears.

“ME” is the usurpation of subjectivity – “I” – by the body-mind object.

See that the body-mind appear to “I”. To YOU. To Awareness. Then the world of suffering and problems fall away, only applicable to a bundle of stories called “ME.”

Even Arch Angel Gabriel’s SWORD cannot touch or cut what is real.
As ‘the sword of truth’, it only slices up the illusion.

There is no one on the outside looking in.
There is no one on the inside looking out.

The mind keeps searching because it hears stories about some ‘other’ that got it.
A subtle envy takes the mind back into conceptualized ‘time’ – a ‘future time’ when I WILL GET IT….
It is just NOT so.
True compassion does not allow any seeker to search in the mind. Because there is no answer in the mind.
The pointing is always right now – pointing to the true essence of BEING ‘just as I am’.

It is wonderful to read all these pointers…and some are totally magnificent jewels…like the lines of Gilbert in the post above…

Everyone â€˜appearsâ€™ to be seeing but the body and ALL of the minds content are appearing in the SEEING.

These last two programs cover everything and I advise anyone to listen to them over and over and let the subtlety sink in. There is far more in them than can be taken in in one listening.
To answer your question: The witness is a concept of an ‘I’ being ‘a witness of’. It is naturally present and is like the faint remnants of the ‘habitual identification’ with being the body and the ‘seer’. It is a thought – ‘I see’. ‘I know’.
‘I know’ and ‘i don’t know’ both appear in the knowing.
One could say that the witness is a translucent appearance in mind. A reference point. This ‘witness’ naturally dissolves into naked seeing. One knows that it was only ever an appearance in mind.
‘No one’ is actually ‘seeing’ in the actuality. There is only SEEING.
Everyone ‘appears’ to be seeing but the body and ALL of the minds content are appearing in the SEEING.
This is obvious if you just ‘take notice’. The impartial witness plays its role here.
Verify this for ‘yourself’ by noticing that the body is appearing in this seeing.
Then, see where the locality that the seeing is happening in.
Don’t accept any concept that may appear about this – eg: ‘I am the seer’ – SEE that they are all also appearances. Just be the seeing.
Keep with it and negate each conceptual arising that ‘claims’ to be the ‘seer’.
The SEEING is naked and unadorned. No shape, color, form or locality.
Everything appears in THAT ‘clear space of knowing’. It is not a ‘person’.
No one actually passes through anything – it is all equal as ‘appearance’, ‘things’.
All processes are in ‘the appearances’ only. You are not a ‘thing’.
What you are is invisible.
By its very nature THIS is not ‘limited to the few’, as has been pushed onto the unwary seekers by the ‘elite’ teachers. It is totally possible for anyone to realized their true nature. And it is happening more and more in ‘recent weeks’.
It all happens ‘in the appearance’. The WHOLE is not divided into parts. It is naturally All inclusive.
How amazing that all this can be laid out in such an orderly fashion, so often and still the intellect will twist it into misunderstanding.
The bias of ‘held onto beliefs’ is like a wonky lens in the mind. Compassion can appear as chastisement.
Beware of teachers who speak about other teachers as being in the ‘subtle doer-ship bag’.
They automatically place themselves in their own designated category by suggesting such nonsense – this may be too subtle to recognize straight away but contemplate it.
Some appear to behave as if THEY are the only ones who are clear. It is an automatic separation concept. Why bother? But we do, it seems.
The exclusivity game is a sham.
Those that prance about in ‘states’ of ‘I am enlightened’ wearing silk robes and trinkets are not messengers at all.
The ‘messenger’ has a job – to deliver the message, cleanly, simply a without delay.
Once the message has been delivered, the messenger can take a silver coin tip (optional but he needs to eat) and go on his next delivery.

Is the witness OR watcher OF the unfoldment a “stage” that all seem to “pass through”, in this process, which is Not Really a process at all?

I have been talking to a lot of teachers as of late and all of them elude to this “jimminy cricket”, type of *sense*,,, that always precludes, includes AND follows everything that “comes Up” in the appearance?

General comment:
Welcome to all the new arrivals (new listeners to the programs of which there appears to be many). Feel free to make comments, so long as they are along the lines of the programs and/or constructive suggestions etc.
The nature of this ancient text may well leave you speechless. The comments have slowed considerably in the last few days but the visits and downloads have soared to a new high. ‘Phase Two’ of the Urban Guru Cafe will be published in a week or so. It is a bit of ‘a secret’ and it has been ‘kept under wraps’. Everyone likes a surprise, don’t they?
You won’t want to miss it, I am sure, so make a note about it to yourself, if you do that sort of thing.

If we cease to name ‘things’ then everything is clearly ‘as it is’. Knowing this, it is obvious that ‘words’ are just appearances and have no power of themselves.
What makes words seem troublesome is the energizing effect that belief in them appears to give them. There is no Self, limited or unlimited. There is no one there that ever knows this. Yet it is known.
Profound words are equal to profane words – they are simply vibrational patterns appearing out of emptiness. As soon as ‘we’ give it meaning, ‘we’ have entered the dream.
There is no way out of the dream ‘in the dream’.
There is NO ‘you’. Shocking it may well appear to be, but the shock is only felt as a shudder through a believed in ‘entity’.
Facing the fear is the death of fear.
The world appears in what you are. There is no ‘out there’ or ‘in here’.
The ancient text is undeviating in its ‘precise pointing’.
Some ‘teachers’ want to change the words so that they are more accurate in their opinion.
The potency of the text is not in the words themselves.
‘Pointing’ is as simple and effective as a sign post.
The recognition is the key ‘element’.
‘You’, as a believed in ‘entity’ cannot provide this recognition.
It arises unexpectedly, as an ‘act’ of intelligence, decisive and irreversible.
It is the unchanging background, which ‘you’ consistently ignore. This is why ‘seeking’ is appearing to happen. Seeking is time and time does not exist.
There is no point in pretending to yourself that ‘you’ understand Non Duality.

Not Two. (Non Duality) The first and ONLY instant of cognition is knowing that you are.
Isn’t this obvious right now? (The Rock of Ages)
What more do you want?
Nothing can be added to it – and nothing can be taken away.

Thanks Gilbert…when I listen it makes me think of this:
