Discovering what you truly are

84. Jiddu Krishnamurti – The Essence of Freedom, is naked Seeing.

THE URBAN GURU CAFE IS A FREE PODCAST

Some of the essential points which J. Krishnamurti shared are in this program.

In 1929 Krishnamurti dissolved ‘The Order’, which, he was made the head of – because he recognized that he was being turned into an idol of worship.  He says: “I maintain that Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect. That is my point of view, and I adhere to that absolutely and unconditionally. Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized; nor should any organization be formed to lead or coerce people along any particular path. If you first understand that, then you will see how impossible it is to organize a belief. A belief is purely an individual matter, and you cannot and must not organize it. If you do, it becomes dead, crystallized; it becomes a creed, a sect, a religion, to be imposed on others”..(end of quote).  The program is a pointer, fresh and new.

Michael and Tom have a podcast on Non Duality, of one can call it that.

I have the highest regard for K.His break from Theosophy and “Truth is a Pathless Land “gave me the courage to leave a tradition that had long gone stale.

  5. Posted by suki on 05.31.10 3:48 am

I came across K, via reading one of Bhagwan shree Rajneesh (aka Osho) books back in the early 80s’.
Rajneesh said that if there was another ‘Enlightened’ being who could be considered a contemporary, it was definitely K. Through the works of Rajneesh I came across many references of many authors in ‘Spirituality’, like Alan Watts, Lao Tzu, Gurdijeff, Zen, Tantra etc, etc,. Rajneesh had been a catalytic gateway to broader information and resources in Self Exploration for me.

Both K and Rajneesh had been hugely influential in the direction the flow of life would take me, at least that’s how it appears. The two could not have been anymore different from each other!

The thing to remember is that all this(whatever is appearing) has appeared to happen in Awareness.
Every ‘teacher’, every book, every pointer, all right here, right now!

As I see it, these programs can stand alone as a document of clear pointing. Both the UG Krishnamurti programs and this J. Krishnamurti program are cutting away the nonsense and offer a clean message. It is not about the messenger. If anyone has any rare CLEAR recordings of some teacher who has ‘passed over’ let me know. These programs can show that the essential message is the same. No need to get into the politics of who is better or worse etc. The direct delivery is all that counts. Who is counting?

  7. Posted by Fred on 05.31.10 8:34 pm

Listening to Krishnamurti with the music really re-enlivens his message for me. He skillfully pointed to freedom beyond conditioning and opposites. I particularly resonate with what he said that freedom is not freedom from the opposite- a mistake that is often currently made in non-dual teachings which sometimes present freedom as freedom from a separate self (a dualistic teaching).

  8. Posted by gilbert on 06.01.10 12:21 am

Yes, the typical teaching is to make a better ‘me’. That is fine in psychology and has a place in the scheme of things. J. Krishnamurti was often very direct. His long talks seemed to drag on and on and although I never attended one, I heard from many that they just fell asleep. However, when the salient points are presented without the long periods of talking, it really carries a punch. U.G.Krishnamurti is similar. Some say he was an angry man. It does not matter. The three programs on UG and this one on J.K. are stand alone pointers and they can still be active in delivering what needs to be delivered long after they have ‘departed’. That in essence is what the Urban Guru is about – uncomplicated delivery. It is NOT about the messengers. Very few give any feed back to this site but the visits are consistently high. I wonder sometimes if anyone notices that they are not asked to believe in anything, that there is no membership required, no weekend intensives to attend and no teacher to worship. It is all presented without asking the listener for anything in return.

Perhaps Sandy could share more William Samuels. Bill was from “The Greatest Generation”those who fought and served during WW2.I have a soft spot for these guys and gals. It’s memorial Day here in the States (think Remembrance Day) Mr Samuels obviously comes to mind

  10. Posted by gilbert on 06.01.10 9:59 am

Well Dogribb, thank you for your suggestion but I think Sandy shares a bit too much of William’s stuff on this site actually. No disrespect intended – Sandy has her own site on William and everyone is well aware of it now. William has a lovely way with words, yet it smells of Christian New Age stuff a little too much for my liking. There are other elements as well. But the directness is there. The thing is, this is not about the messenger. There are new voices coming onto the ‘scene’ and they have an equally insightful ‘presence’.
We promise to be controversial here at the UGC. So……
Memory is fine for what it is. Spending a whole day remembering ‘stuff’ about ‘war’ and ‘heroes’ is not recommended. Appreciation of all those who went before us can be all inclusive. Presence-awareness, right HERE, right NOW, is the livingness that it is all about. Why ignore that?
Discovering what or who is upset over what is a lot more useful than sentimentality. Sending our young men off to die for some Fuzzy Logic is still happening. Does anyone know what it is all for?
I have (or had) members of my own family who went to war and came back. They were shunned by society and died in isolation, drank too much trying to forget things that they could not even speak of.
Civilization? Progress? The past? The future?
The question is, is there anyone actually ‘doing’ any of this stuff?
If you can find a ‘doer’ let us know.

  11. Posted by Dogribb on 06.01.10 10:16 am

I think that was the times and the audience. My parents had to package Sunday evening Stew as Cowboy dinner in order for me to eat it. Vernon Howard was encouraged to title his books to take advantage of the current trends as well. Funny…the ego goes out searching to add to itself only to find it isn’t there, nor was it ever. Thanks to you blokes and your tricks. – Thanks

Hi Gil and cafe customers, thanks for the continued effort to put the crispest and clearest nondual teachings here Gilbert, it is much appreciated, so enjoyable, thanks, Tazzy.

  13. Posted by gilbert on 06.02.10 10:27 am

Thank you Tazzy, Always good to hear from you. Let’s catch up next time your in Melbourne. Some may not be aware that there are many folks in very remote places who cannot get to the main cities to attend a meeting or even go to the movies etc. Some cities only have teachers who take seekers for a ride. In any case, the UGC is here to provide some clear stuff for anyone and everyone, irrespective of religious beliefs, color or creed. I guess it is a gold mine for some. No fees, no membership and no one is asking you to believe in anything. And best of all, you don’t have to kiss some gurus feet, after a hundred others have done so. This is a germ free wholesome site.

Thanks for keeping ‘us’ on the straight and narrow pathless path!

Once again attended the Second Life meeting tonight with Jason Swanson. It is such good fortune to be able to hear it directly and to be able to ask questions from such clear speakers on the subject. Why don’t you pop in Gilbert, it’d be lovely to hear ya.

Sounds like a hallmark card, too good to be true perhaps, but truth is stranger then fiction and here it is,

‘Life is expressing itself and it’s perfect as it is. Life is a miracle. And oh ya, you are that!’

  16. Posted by gilbert on 06.02.10 3:46 pm

I just downloaded the second life update just before I took a look at the latest comments. So, I may pop in on the Thursday meeting. Which is Friday here. Australia is one day ahead. World keeps on spinning.
In some places you can catch a plane on Friday and arrive on Thursday within hours. How cool is that? Well, might see you in SL.

Just consider that what you take reality to be may be only the product of conditioning, of accumulated knowledge. You have learned to take the world as separate, to take yourself as merely a temporary thing among things.

The question is – is this particular idea about reality true? Has this paradigm ever been questioned seriously? Why would it? Have you seriously questioned the idea of a “person”, and individual entity residing in a body?

Is this paradigm even the most obvious? Does it actually have any basis in direct experience? If you just take what you actually know without any memories or gathered knowledge, reality isn’t laid out in separate pieces.

Consider this present experience – you CALL it “I am looking at a computer”. This particular equation posits a world of separate things, with an individual doing the looking, in possession of the ability to look, to know. However that equation is merely a way of thinking, a way of splitting up what is nondual or whole into parts, in order to make sense of it, to measure, to obscure the natural mystery of what IS.

Seeing through the mind’s natural tendency to do this, along with the fact that a measurement or categorization ISN’T actual separation, there is the opportunity to remain without the impulse. The “experiencing” is happening – presently – the “experiencer” and the “experienced” are convenient descriptions – we might call them imagination – is there actually a separation between them?

Isn’t “experiencing” all-inclusive? Doesn’t “experiencing” include the experiencer and experienced? Have they ever been apart? If we point out the experiencing, aren’t we necessarily including that “I” and that “computer”? Is “computer” other than that experiencing?

Is that “I” anything BUT that present experiencing?

I know you can download Randall’s Second Life Thursday meeting on Avastu Designs, where do you find Janson’s recorded meeting?

    Cat,

I don’t believe jason records his meetings.

Something ‘happens’ only IN the STORY, and there is NO story.
‘Confusion’ (conflict between points of reference) implies a story, and there is NO story.
‘Me’ and ‘you’, ‘us’ and ‘them’, are points of reference in a story, and there is NO story.
Without a story, NOTHING is happening!

  21. Posted by Cat on 06.04.10 1:53 pm

‘Let what is be – what you are is peace itself – peace means without condition.’ RF

  22. Posted by fernando on 06.04.10 10:55 pm

Being is Knowing. Knowing is Being. They are the same: YOU.
    You KNOW yourself BEING yourself.
There is absolutely nothing other than BEing-KNOWing (NO entity anywhere!).

  23. Posted by gilbert on 06.05.10 2:31 am

What more do you want? How many roses must you smell before you know the rose? How many mornings must you greet before you realize that the mind is but a mechanical thing turning like a wheel?
What is it that you want?
What is it that you lack?
    Capacity to understand?
All the drama of all the world amounts to nothing but a play of the elements.
The wheel turns and all things considered good and true are pitted against that which is deemed to be bad and untrue.
Neither heaven nor hell exist anywhere – but are existing only as imaginary realms of the mind, depicting the extreme polar opposites of mind.
The instant that you take sides, a conflict is engaged. What quality of attention is required to recognize this?
For time immemorial this struggle of the opposites has played itself out as the world of appearances.
Kings and Queens, Empires and Nations have arisen and fallen over and over again. What has been gained? What has been lost?
Hunfendraktermologis. What meaning does that word have?
It has no meaning whatsoever. You can look for meaning in it and you may even imagine some meaning. It has no meaning.
What is genuine and true in yourself can never be corrupted by words or meaning. Innately this knowing is present as presence itself.
Beyond the reach of our ordinary vision, beyond the subatomic substances, there is the same clarity which you are totally familiar with – it is this natural presence, which for the mind is beyond all comprehension, if only because no labels have been placed upon it.
Yes but………..the mind wants to deny or object.
By its very nature the dualistic mind ‘creates’ problems for its apparent ‘owner’. The contriving tendencies of mind is the dis-ease of being. Relaxation in the natural state, easily observed in a sleeping baby, is no stranger to you. Cease searching for fabricated meanings and spiritual fantasies and relax in being.
From there, see if there is anything more that you want.

Gilbert, That last post was the best thing I have read in a long time. The addiction to more and better can be very elusive.
I have asked myself that question many times, What more do I want? deeper understanding, a more powerful life changing spirtual experence? If I cant find it in this moment right now than I wont ever find it, that is to say there are no words I can read that will improve whats allready here. Somtimes words will remind me of this and I’ll say o ya thats right its the mind doing its thing again, and there I am perfect, needing nothing. let the mind race, let it think away its thoughts cant touch me.

  25. Posted by suki on 06.05.10 11:41 pm

Being is constant. Already full, complete. It cannot expand, so the quality is of immeasurable stillness.
Nothing can be added or taken away. In form or formlessness, perfection ever prevails. There is only One. You are That.

  26. Posted by fernando on 06.06.10 1:12 am

The MOST obvious factor is the most elusive when we try to grasp this with a concept. You are totally free right now. It is only thought that tells you otherwise and ‘you’ believe it. Cut off the energy supply to these beliefs by questioning them most thoroughly. They will not survive, they can’t.
But if you keep insisting on being a ‘person’ with ‘conditioning’ then it remains impossible. What more can be done?

Gilbert and Wally…Thank you for that last exchange. When I say: All is well, indeed okay in this moment…this moment is so complete…why would or even how could anyone change or want to change it. So avoiding the temptation to desire to change anything is a delight and this delight appears to invite more of an acceptance of Now as it is. That was a little wordy…but it helped and indeed no problem with a little wordiness. Loving you all, Jim.
